Viamede Resort Is Boldly Different

As my blog has evolved over the last year, my love affair with travelling has grown. I am so excited to bring you my first travel post, I know this will be the first of many.  My husband and I recently had the opportunity to stay at Viamede Resort located in the Kawartha lakes.  It was a lovely blend of traditional cottage life with lots of perks!!

THE ROOM:

As a historical property, Viamede offers a wide variety of room shapes, sizes, and types—no cookie-cutter floor plans here! All of their guest rooms and cottages are comfortable, recently renovated, and redecorated and come with their own unique features.

We stayed in one of the private cottages and loved it. I thought it was a great blend of a traditional cottage and your own home with no extra frills. They were clean, the bed was very comfortable and each individual cottage has their own bbq and full sized fridge.

THE LAKE AND AMENITIES:

Oh Stoney Lake now you have my heart!!!! The lake was perfect. Fun and relaxation are a top priority at Viamede, and all of the activities and equipment are free!!! They have gorgeous docks, canoes, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and a water trampoline. No need to sign anything out, just walk up to the beach and off you go.

THE GROUNDS:

With 165 acres of unspoiled wilderness, their grounds are well suited for both relaxation and adventure. They have 6 km of forest trails which were perfect for my morning runs, the historic wedding chapel is breathtaking and the on-site farm is so cute where they have their own livestock and raise their our own vegetables for Mount Julian, the fine dining restaurant.

THE FOOD:

The food was spectacular!! With every stay a really good breakfast buffet is included. The two restaurants on the property were excellent. We dined at Mount Julian the first night which was also our anniversary. We opted for the 9 course gourmet dinner with wine pairings, it was hands down one of my favourite meals EVER! I am actually going to do a separate post on the meal because it was so magical! All the food is locally sourced which I loved as well.

The picture above was my favourite course at Mount Julian- BBQ Duck Breast, Jarrod’s Duck Egg, Martin’s Farm Potato, Local Swiss Chard, Heirloom Tomato and Lakefield Honey Glaze!!! Be Jealous because it was so delicious.

The picture below is the Boathouse Restaurant,  where we dined on the perfect patio over looking the lake. We both got locally sourced beef burgers and super fresh salads. Mmmmmmmm.

THE VERDICT:

We loved it! We loved every minute! The only issue was we didn’t stay longer. With so much included there was ample activities and things to do, plus it’s dog friendly!! The owner Ben pictured below is very hands on and passionate. He took us fishing on our last day and it was the perfect send off. Viamede Resort is a great option for couples, families and foodies!
